Eight new Accident plan attributes, driven by a real customer gap
Houchens Insurance Group quotes Accident policies for a large school population. Those groups all expect the same benefit set, and eight of the lines carriers commonly include simply didn't exist in Plansight. The broker had to leave them off the proposal even though the carrier covered them.
This adds those eight lines to the Accident benefit set, so they appear in the proposal and quote form alongside Hospital Confinement, AD&D Coverage, and the rest.
Nothing changes for anyone who doesn't want it. Any customer with a saved Accident template sees the new lines turned off by default. The template owner decides when to enable each one.
This is the interesting wrinkle. Before writing the card we cross-checked each requested item against what Plansight stores and what the OpenPlan integration already extracts from carrier documents. Two of the eight turned out to be nearly free.
| Requested benefit | In Plansight today? | OpenPlan reads it? | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| ICU Hospital Admission | No | Yes | Quick win — data already extracted, just needs surfacing |
| Intensive Care Unit (ICU) | No | Yes | Quick win — same object also exposes Daily Confinement + Max Days |
| X-Ray Benefit | No | No | Net-new |
| Follow Up Treatment | No | No | Net-new |
| Medical Imaging | No | No | Net-new |
| Appliances | No | No | Net-new |
| Blood/Plasma/Platelets | No | No | Net-new |
| Transportation | No — we have Ambulance, which is different | No | Net-new |
The five truly net-new items are not auto-extracted by OpenPlan yet. Extending the extractor is a separate follow-up.
Worth saying out loud, because the two look redundant sitting next to each other in the list.
Ambulance covers emergency ground and air transport. Transportation covers non-emergency medical transport. Different benefits, both stay.
The existing Accident list groups loosely by event type: hospital admission, injury payouts, treatment services, policy terms. The new lines slot into the two groups they naturally belong to rather than getting appended at the bottom.
Block 1 — facility / diagnostic, after Initial Hospital Confinement. ICU sits next to Hospital Confinement because they're parallel inpatient concepts: general care vs. critical care. X-Ray and Medical Imaging cluster as diagnostics at the same admission point.
Block 2 — treatment services, after Physical Therapy. Follow Up Treatment, Blood/Plasma/Platelets, Appliances, and Transportation all describe ancillary services that follow an injury event, so they group with Prosthesis, Rehab, and Physical Therapy.
AD&D Coverage, Benefit Reduction Schedule, Enrollment, Cost / Fee, and Rate Guarantee sections are unchanged below this.
The attached Excel on the Jira card (Accident - Proposed Attribute Order.xlsx) is the visual source of truth for the order. The Plansights view and the rendered proposal/PDF should match it exactly.
Any pre-existing customer Accident template defaults the new lines off. No customer's proposal changes silently. Enabling a line is a deliberate act by the template owner.
Monica Harmon at Houchens requested both “ICU Hospital Admission Benefit” and “Intensive Care Unit (ICU).” It isn't yet confirmed whether she means two separate rows or one combined ICU row showing admission $, daily $, and max days the way Hospital Confinement does today ($1,500 ($300 / 10 Max Days)).
The card is written for the combined-row interpretation, which also lines up with how OpenPlan already models ICU as a single object. If Monica wants two standalone rows, row 8 changes. Worth knowing if this comes up before it's resolved.
